Previously: At my grandfather's gala, my stepmother's fake pregnancy belly started hissing. My little cousin's innocent whisper exposed the silicone hoax that shattered the De Luca dynasty forever.

The gala ended in chaos. Guests scattered like startled doves, whispering behind their hands as security escorted Clarissa and Gerald out through the service entrance. Toby fell asleep in Enzo's arms, his small body finally relaxing as the adrenaline wore off.

But Enzo couldn't sleep. He sat in his study, the deflated silicone belly still on his desk, staring at it like it was a snake that might strike again. Something about Clarissa's parting words gnawed at him.

'You don't even know who that boy is.'

What did she mean? Toby was his grandson — his son Gerald's child from a brief, unhappy marriage to a woman who'd died in a car accident three years ago. Enzo had raised the boy as his own ever since, never questioning the paperwork.

Now he pulled out the old file, the one his lawyer had prepared when Toby came to live with him. Birth certificate, custody papers, DNA test results from the estate attorney. Everything looked clean.

But Enzo had built an empire on trusting his gut, and his gut was screaming.

He called his private investigator, a wiry man named Frank who'd handled more than one family scandal in his time. 'I need you to run a new DNA test on Toby, without anyone knowing. And dig into Clarissa's past — every doctor, every hospital, every pharmacy she's visited in the last two years.'

Frank paused. 'Boss, you're not going to like what I find.'

Enzo's grip tightened on the phone. 'When do I ever?'

Three days later, Frank came back with a thick folder and a grim expression. He laid out photographs, medical records, and a copy of a birth certificate that made Enzo's heart stop.

'Toby isn't Gerald's son,' Frank said quietly. 'He's yours.'

The world tilted. Enzo gripped the edge of his desk as Frank explained: twenty-two years ago, a young woman named Elena had come to work at the De Luca estate as a housekeeper. She'd been beautiful, quiet, and hopelessly in love with her employer.

Enzo remembered her. He remembered the night of his wife's funeral, the whiskey, the grief, the way Elena had held him when he'd broken down. He'd thought it was just comfort.

It had been more. And nine months later, Elena had given birth to a son — Toby's father, a man Enzo had never known existed.

'Elena died in that car crash,' Frank said. 'But before she did, she arranged for Gerald to adopt the boy and keep it a secret. She didn't want you to be burdened with the scandal.'

Enzo's eyes burned. 'So the boy I've been raising as my grandson…'

'Is your son. And Gerald and Clarissa knew it. They've been using that secret to blackmail the estate for years.'

The rage that flooded Enzo was unlike anything he'd ever felt. It was cold, precise, and utterly lethal. He looked at the folder, then at the sleeping child in the next room.

'Get my lawyers on the phone,' he said. 'And get me a meeting with the district attorney. I'm going to bury Gerald and Clarissa so deep they'll need a map to find daylight.'

But when the lawyers arrived, they brought news that made Enzo pause. 'There's a complication, sir. Gerald and Clarissa have disappeared. And they've taken something with them — a copy of the original trust documents, including the clause about heirs.'

Enzo's jaw tightened. 'What clause?'

The lawyer swallowed. 'The one that says if the sole heir is found to be illegitimate, the entire trust reverts to the state.'

Enzo felt the trap close around him. Gerald and Clarissa weren't just greedy — they were vengeful. And they'd just turned his own empire into a weapon against him.
