The Commander's Desperation

David’s shock quickly curdled into humiliation and burning rage. The entire graduating class of recruits had just witnessed his complete lack of authority over the academy’s most valuable assets. If this got back to the brass, his dream of becoming the permanent K9 Commander would be shattered. Desperate to reassert dominance, David unholstered his high-voltage taser, aiming it directly at Rex’s chest.

"Step away from the government property, Megan, or I will put this rogue beast down right now!" David bellowed, his finger trembling on the trigger.

Megan immediately stepped in front of the weapon, shielding Rex with her own body. "You touch him, David, and you’ll answer to more than just the academy board," she warned, her voice steady but dangerous. Officer Taylor stepped forward, placing a hand on David's arm. "Stand down, David! She's unarmed, and the dogs are calm now. Don't do something we can't undo." But David brushed Taylor off, his eyes wild. "She is trespassing and interfering with a police training exercise! I am ordering you to arrest her, Taylor!"

Before Taylor could react, a commanding voice boomed from the balcony overlooking the yard. "What is going on down there?" Chief Henderson, the head of the academy, walked down the concrete steps, his eyes scanning the tense standoff. David immediately lowered his taser and tried to salvage the situation. "Chief, this former employee is disrupting our K9 unit and trespassing on academy grounds. I was just neutralizing the threat."

Megan didn't back down. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a sleek black flash drive. "I'm not trespassing, Chief. I came to deliver the truth," Megan said, holding the drive high. "This contains the raw, unedited footage from the off-site security backup of the night Zeus was poisoned. The footage that Officer David claimed was deleted." David’s face drained of color as he realized his career was hanging by a thread.
