The ballroom fell into a breathless silence as Chloe danced. Every movement was a masterful blend of pain, strength, and raw emotion. Alex watched with his mouth slightly open, recognizing the signature style of a dancer who had vanished from the elite ballet scene five years ago. Victoria, however, was trembling. Her perfect makeup could not hide the sheer terror in her eyes. When the music stopped, the room erupted into thunderous applause, but Chloe didn't bow. Instead, she walked directly to Alex and Victoria.
"You dance beautifully,"Alex said, stepping forward.
"Who are you?"Chloe looked at Victoria, whose hands were shaking.
"Your wife knows exactly who I am, Alex,"Chloe said, her voice echoing through the quieted room. She reached into her pocket and produced a frayed, cut satin ribbon—the very ribbon from the pointe shoes she had worn the night her career was sabotaged.
Victoria tried to laugh nervously.
"Alex, she is clearly unstable. Security, please escort her out!"she demanded. But Alex was looking at the ribbon, then at his wife. He was a major donor to the National Ballet and knew the tragic story of Chloe Miller, the rising star whose career ended when her shoes were maliciously cut before her biggest audition.
"Victoria,"Alex said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
"This ribbon belongs to Chloe Miller. How did you get it?"
Chloe spoke up, her voice steady.
"She didn't get it tonight, Alex. She kept it as a trophy after she ruined my life five years ago so she could take my place in the company. And I have the confession from the stagehand she bribed to prove it."
