Previously: A homeless veteran faces public humiliation from a ruthless banker, only to be rescued by a mysterious billionaire with a hidden connection. But this is just the beginning of a shocking chain of events.

The Billionaire's Gambit

The heavy rear door of the Maybach clicked open, the sound sharp against the howl of the wind and rain. David Holloway stepped out, his unassuming trench coat instantly darkening as raindrops soaked the shoulders. He moved with a rigid, towering combat posture, a stark contrast to the chaos of the storm. He charged up the marble steps, bursting through the brass revolving doors like a force of nature. His piercing gaze locked onto Jason Vance, a silent, terrifying velocity in his stare.

"Touch that veteran again, Vance, and your life as you know it is over!"

The roar of Holloway's voice echoed through the lobby, momentarily silencing the thunder's rumble. Jason froze, mid-stride, his arrogant smirk wiped away by sheer surprise and a dawning irritation. Elena, meanwhile, gasped softly, her eyes wide as she tracked the commanding figure who had entered the fray. The air crackled with tension, the confrontation shifting irrevocably.

David Holloway ignored Jason completely. He brushed past the stunned banker, his damp coat grazing Vance’s bespoke suit, and dropped to one knee on the wet marble directly in front of Elena. The hardness in his eyes softened, replaced by a profound, trembling respect. With a movement sharp and precise, he snapped his right hand to his brow in a perfect military salute. His chest heaved, and tears glistened in his eyes, mirroring the single tear that had fallen earlier from Elena's own weathered face.

"At ease, Sergeant Major Elena. Your watch is over, and your family has you now."

Elena’s breath hitched. Sergeant Major. The rank, spoken with such reverence, broke through the dam of her pain and humiliation. Tears spilled freely now, tracing paths down her hollow cheeks. Her chin trembled violently as she raised her own shaking hand, returning the salute. On the sidelines, Jason Vance scoffed, his lips sealed tightly in utter confusion and growing disbelief. Who was this man? And why was he saluting a homeless woman?

Holloway rose to his full six-foot-two height, his movement fluid and predatory. He whirled on Jason Vance, stepping inches from his chest. With a decisive movement, he flipped open his damp trench coat, reached into an inner pocket, and produced a solid black titanium card. He jammed it firmly against the lapel of Jason's pinstripe suit. The metallic tap was crisp, authoritative. Jason’s gaze dropped to the card. The Holloway Empire emblem. His arrogant smirk shattered. His eyes widened in paralyzed shock, his jaw dropping before clamping shut in suffocating terror as all color drained from his face. The sudden, suffocating dread was palpable.
