A Sudden Interruption at the Altar

The sun streamed through the stained-glass windows of the elegant chapel, casting a warm, golden glow over the white roses and lush green ivy decorating the altar. Sophia stood there, her heart fluttering with a mixture of joy and nervousness. She looked at Matthew, the man she believed was her soulmate, looking dashing in his tailored tuxedo. The minister was just about to ask for the vows when the heavy oak doors at the back of the chapel creaked open.

Instead of a late guest, a small figure rushed down the aisle. It was Grace, Sophia’s eight-year-old niece, her face pale and her eyes wide with terror. In her small hands, she clutched a vintage metallic camera—a family heirloom that Sophia’s late father had passed down. Matthew’s face instantly contorted from a warm smile into a mask of pure fury.

"Get her out of here! Right now!" Matthew screamed, his voice echoing sharply off the stone walls of the chapel.

Sophia gasped, tears welling in her eyes at her groom’s sudden, violent outburst. She had never heard him speak with such malice, let alone to a child. Grace ignored him, sprinting straight to the altar and burying herself behind the heavy folds of Sophia’s lace wedding dress. Sophia reached down, protecting her niece, while Matthew stepped forward aggressively.

"So what?" Matthew snapped, his eyes darting nervously toward the guests. "She's just a kid. She's lying about whatever she thinks she saw. Get her away from us!"

Grace looked up at Sophia, her small voice trembling but resolute. "The camera heard you, Auntie Sophia," she whispered. "He said he used you." Before anyone could stop her, Grace pressed a small lever on the vintage camera, which had been modified with a modern digital recorder. A harsh, static-filled voice began to play through the chapel's microphone system: "After the wedding, I'll take..." Matthew’s face drained of color as sheer panic washed over him.
