Previously: When a wealthy guest humiliates my eight-months-pregnant wife and our daughter steps in to protect her, I reveal the truth that shatters his world — and mine.

Later that night, in our suite overlooking the city, Dominic paced. "Sterling is already making calls," he said, running a hand through his dark hair. "He's threatening to sue, to go to the press. He doesn't know who he's dealing with."

I sat on the edge of the bed, my hands folded over my belly. "He knows now," I said. "You showed him the deed."

Dominic stopped, turning to face me. "That's the thing, Elena. He's not just angry. He's desperate. And desperate men do stupid things."

Ella was asleep in the next room, her tiny chest rising and falling. I thought about her little voice, pleading for me. "I can't let him hurt us," I said.

"He won't," Dominic promised. But his eyes flickered — a hesitation I'd seen before, a shadow I'd never asked about.

The next morning, Sterling's lawyer arrived at the hotel, demanding a meeting. Dominic and I sat across from him in the boardroom, the platinum deed on the table. Sterling stormed in, flanked by two men in suits. "This isn't over," he spat, pointing at me. "You think you can just —"

"Sit down," Dominic said, his voice calm, but firm. Sterling didn't sit. "I want the deed revoked," he demanded. "I have proof this hotel was meant to be mine."

My blood ran cold. "What proof?" I asked.

Sterling smirked. "Did you know your husband was the one who signed the original transfer? But it was never legal. Your father — the true owner — never signed off."

I looked at Dominic. "My father?" I whispered. "You knew my father?"

Dominic's face went pale. "Elena, I can explain."

"Explain what?" My voice rose. "That you married me for the hotel? That I'm just a pawn in your game?"

Sterling laughed, a sharp, ugly sound. "Oh, this is rich. The waitress who thought she was a queen."

I stood up, my belly heavy, my heart heavier. "Get out," I said to Sterling. "And take your lies with you."

He didn't move. "You'll be hearing from my lawyers, Mrs. Vance. Or should I say, Ms. —"

"Out!" Dominic roared, and the security guards stepped forward. Sterling left, but his words lingered like poison.

When the door closed, Dominic reached for me, but I pulled away. "Did you know?" I asked, my voice breaking. "Did you know about my father?"

"I knew," he admitted, his eyes full of pain. "I met him years ago, before we met. He was sick, Elena. He wanted me to protect you, to make sure you were taken care of. He gave me the deed, but he never wanted you to know."

"So you married me out of duty?" I whispered. "Not love?"

"No," he said, stepping closer. "I married you because I fell in love with you. The deed was just a responsibility. You were my heart."

I wanted to believe him. But the doubt was a splinter, digging deeper. "I need time," I said, turning away.

As I walked out, I heard him call my name. But I couldn't look back. Not yet.

That night, I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about my father — a man I'd never known, who had apparently been watching over me from the shadows. And I realized Sterling wasn't the real threat. The real threat was the truth Dominic had kept from me. And it was about to unravel everything.
