Previously: A spilled coffee in a desolate diner ignited a brutal mob war. A waitress's life hung in the balance as a powerful Don and a ruthless lieutenant clashed over a single, costly mistake.

Under the Don's Gaze

The diner, moments before a haven of relative quiet against the storm, was now a tableau of escalating tension. Victoria Sterling, enraged by the ruined cashmere, was a coiled viper ready to strike. Her sneer twisted into a mask of cruel amusement as she unleashed her fury upon the terrified waitress. In a blur of motion, her leather-gloved hand cracked across Liam's mouth with a sickening, explosive sound. Liam’s head snapped sideways, coffee and saliva spraying across the neon-lit floor as she collapsed against the booth, clutching her burning crimson cheek. "Know your place in the dirt before I put you there permanently!" Victoria hissed, the words dripping with vicious condescension. Liam, meanwhile, could only sob soundlessly through clamped jaws, the sting on her face matched by the humiliation, as blood welled from a split lip and tears streamed down her bruised cheek.

It was then that the Don, Nathan Shaw, made his move. Rising from the shadows of the corner booth with a predatory stillness, his movements were deliberate and unnerving. The heavy thud of his leather oxfords on the wet linoleum seemed to echo the thunder outside. As he approached, Victoria's arrogant grin froze, then shattered into horrified recognition. Nathan’s voice, a bone-chilling baritone, cut through the charged air, each word delivered with measured lethality. "In forty years running this city, Victoria, no mongrel under my name strikes a working girl." The color drained from Victoria’s face, her pupils dilating in suffocating dread as her Adam’s apple bobbed convulsively. She was no longer the aggressor, but a cornered animal facing a far greater predator.

Nathan Shaw’s imposing frame seemed to fill the diner as he closed the distance. His scarred hand, thick and powerful, shot out with shocking speed. It clamped around Victoria Sterling's throat like an iron vice, an audible wet choking gasp escaping her as she was effortlessly hoisted off the floor. The brutal kinetic impact of her body slamming onto the cold marble table sent sugar dispensers shattering and porcelain saucers cracking. The air exploded from Victoria's chest in a ragged wheeze. "Apologize to her on your bloody knees," Nathan commanded, his voice a razor-sharp whisper, jaw clenched with quiet fury, "or your skull splits open on this marble." Victoria, trapped and choking, could only stare with bulging, bloodshot eyes, veins protruding across her rapidly purpled temples, the fight utterly extinguished.
