We Mourned Our Lost Twins for Years Until a Strange Child Revealed the Truth
Previously: After five years of grieving their lost twin boys, Clara and David visit the cemetery, only for a mysterious young girl to point at the headstone and make an unbelievable claim.
A Mother's Reckoning
The silence in the hallway was suffocating. Evelyn stared at her son and daughter-in-law, her face pale and her lips trembling. David took a slow, menacing step toward his mother, his voice cold as ice.
"How could you?" David demanded, his voice echoing off the walls. "We spent five years crying over empty graves because of you! Why would you steal our children?"
Evelyn fell to her knees, tears finally spilling from her eyes. She confessed everything in a desperate, broken voice. She had never approved of Clara, believing she was from a lower social class and unworthy of the family name. When the hospital fire broke out five years ago, Evelyn had seized the chaotic moment. She bribed a corrupt nurse to tell Clara and David that the twins had perished, while she secretly smuggled the healthy babies out and brought them to St. Jude’s. She had funded the orphanage for years, planning to eventually "adopt" the boys herself once Clara and David inevitably divorced from the grief.
"I did it for the family legacy!" Evelyn sobbed, reaching out to touch David’s leg. "Clara was going to ruin your life! I wanted to raise them properly!"
David stepped back, looking at his mother with pure disgust.
"You are sick," David said flatly, pulling out his phone. "And you are going to prison."
The police arrived shortly after, arresting Evelyn and taking the corrupt nurse's name. But Clara barely paid attention to the flashing blue lights outside. Guided by Sister Beatrice, she and David slowly walked into the playroom. The two boys looked up, their hazel eyes blinking in curiosity.
Clara fell to her knees, her arms open wide. For the first time in five years, she didn't feel the cold weight of grief. As the boys cautiously walked into her embrace, Clara wept tears of pure, unadulterated joy. David wrapped his arms around all of them, holding his family tight. They had lost five years, but they had the rest of their lives to make up for it. True love and maternal instinct had shattered the darkest of family secrets, proving that a mother's bond can never truly be buried.
