Previously: Julian Vance thought he could mock his old classmate Jack Mercer. He was wrong. Very wrong. What followed was a swift, brutal, and public downfall for the arrogant billionaire.

The Tables Turn

Julian Vance, emboldened by the captive audience and Jack’s unnerving silence, sauntered over. He invaded Jack’s personal space, his expensive cologne a stark contrast to the tavern's damp grit. With a forceful shove of his index finger directly onto Jack’s sternum, he sought to further humiliate the man he’d always considered beneath him. It was a move designed to elicit a flinch, a stammer, anything to feed Julian's insatiable need for dominance.

But Jack Mercer didn’t flinch. In a movement too fast to track, his right hand shot up, clamping Julian’s wrist in a vice-like grip. Julian’s smirk froze, his eyes widening in shock and sudden agony. The crystal tumbler slipped from his grasp, shattering on the timber floor with a violent crash, amber liquid and glass shards scattering like shrapnel.

“Keep your hands to yourself, Julian,” Jack’s voice was a quiet, icy baritone, cutting through the sudden, stunned silence.

Julian stood rigid, his breath catching in his throat. His carefully constructed facade crumbled as he felt the unyielding strength of Jack’s hold. He couldn’t speak, couldn’t move, his teeth grinding, his lower lip quivering with a mixture of bewilderment and rising panic. The power dynamic had irrevocably shifted in the blink of an eye.

Suddenly, the sound of wailing sirens pierced the night, growing rapidly closer. Blinding red, blue, and white emergency lights flashed violently through the rain-streaked tavern windows, casting chaotic shadows. Four black Chevrolet Suburbans, their presidential seal plates glinting, screeched to a halt outside, tires hissing on the wet pavement. The heavy oak doors burst open with a thunderous force, revealing six towering figures in soaking wet dark suits, tactical earpieces, and holstered sidearms. These were not ordinary men; they were Secret Service agents, their presence an immediate, undeniable declaration of authority.

“Perimeter secure! Clear the room immediately!” one agent, Briggs, boomed, his voice echoing with authoritative thunder.

Julian Vance visibly paled, his knees trembling as he stared, paralyzed by disbelief. The smug billionaire was now just a terrified man, his world imploding around him.
