Previously: When wealthy businessman Richard walked into an upscale restaurant, he never expected to face the woman who saved him from starvation thirty years ago—and change her life forever.

The Confrontation

Richard looked into Evelyn's eyes, his grip on her hands warm and reassuring.

"Because this place belongs to you now," Richard finished, his voice steady and resolute.

Evelyn gasped, her breath catching in her throat as she stared down at the heavy brass keys in her hand. Before she could speak, a sharp, patronizing voice shattered the emotional silence of the dining room.

"What on earth is going on here?"

Julian, the restaurant's young and arrogant manager, marched over to the table. His eyes darted from Richard’s expensive suit to Evelyn’s tear-stained face, and his expression immediately soured. Julian had always treated the older staff with disdain, viewing them as slow and disposable.

"Evelyn, what did you do?" Julian snapped, stepping between them. "Are you bothering our VIP guests? I’ve told you a hundred times to keep your head down. Pack your things and get out. You're fired!"

Evelyn shrank back, her shoulders tensing as tears of humiliation welled in her eyes.

"I'm sorry, Julian, I didn't mean to—" she stammered.

Julian rudely snatched the keys from her hand.

"And what are these? Did you steal these from the gentleman's table?" Julian sneered, turning to Richard with a fake, obsequious smile. "I am so sorry, sir. We will have this woman removed immediately, and I assure you the police will be notified."

Richard’s expression hardened into ice. The quiet, gentle man who had just been weeping vanished, replaced by the formidable billionaire who had built an empire from nothing. He stood to his full height, towering over the arrogant manager.

"I suggest you return those keys to her hand immediately," Richard said, his voice dropping to a dangerously low register. "And you will apologize to her. Now."

Julian chuckled nervously, completely misreading the situation.

"Sir, you don't understand, she's just a clumsy waitress—"
"I understand perfectly," Richard interrupted. "What you don't understand is who you are speaking to."
