Previously: When Marcus confronted his daughter's humble boyfriend in a grease-stained garage, he thought he was in control. But a powerful stranger's sudden arrival turned the tables instantly.

A Sudden Shift in Power

Marcus laughed, a sound that echoed hollowly off the metal rafters of the garage. He looked Robert up and down, unimpressed by the older man's sharp suit.

"Your son?" Marcus mocked, crossing his arms. "Please. If this kid is your son, then you're just another working-class nobody trying to play tough. Do you have any idea who I am? I am the head of the Sterling Group. I could buy this entire block and bulldoze this pathetic garage by tomorrow morning."

Robert didn't blink. His face remained a mask of calm, cold determination. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek black smartphone. He didn't look at Marcus as he dialed a number and placed the phone to his ear. "William," Robert said when the call connected. "Cancel the Vanguard acquisition immediately. Pull all of our venture capital out of the Sterling Group. Yes, every single cent. Do it now."

The smug smile on Marcus's face began to falter. The Vanguard acquisition was the massive multi-million dollar merger that Marcus's company desperately needed to survive its current financial crisis. Without that capital, the Sterling Group would face immediate bankruptcy. "Wait," Marcus stammered, his voice losing its confident edge. "Who... who did you say you were?"

Robert slipped his phone back into his breast pocket. "My name is Robert Vance," he said quietly. "And this 'pathetic garage' is actually the very first property I ever bought, forty years ago. My son Leo chose to work here to learn our family's shipping and logistics empire from the ground up, without relying on my name."

Marcus felt the ground crumble beneath his designer shoes. He had just assaulted and insulted the son of Robert Vance, one of the most powerful and ruthless billionaires in the country. The man who held the keys to Marcus's entire financial survival was standing right in front of him, and Marcus had just pushed his son.
