Thomas didn't say another word to the stunned guests. Clutching Leo tightly against his chest, he gestured for Elena to follow him. They retreated to the heavy oak-lined sanctuary of his private study, leaving the murmuring crowd behind. Sarah stormed in a moment later, slamming the door so hard the glass panes rattled.

"How dare you humiliate me in front of our peers!"

Sarah shrieked, her face contorted with anger. "You are going to believe the delusions of a sick child and a scheming maid over your own wife? Elena is fired, Thomas! I want her out of this house tonight!"

Thomas set Leo down on the leather sofa, wrapping his own tuxedo jacket around the boy's shivering shoulders. He turned to face Sarah, his voice dangerously calm. "Elena isn't going anywhere until I get the truth. What happened at the hospital, Sarah? You told me you were by his side every single night."

Sarah scoffed, crossing her arms defensively. "I was! I barely slept. This ungrateful little brat is just trying to tear us apart. He has always resented me for replacing his mother."
