Previously: When wealthy Madeline knelt on a busy sidewalk to propose to a scruffy homeless man, she wasn't looking for love—she was trying to wake him up before her family's dark guards erased him forever.

The Confrontation on the Streets

The guards, employed by Madeline’s own ruthless father, Arthur Sterling, shoved her aside. The lead security chief, Vance, grabbed Christopher by his olive jacket, pinning him against the cold brick wall.

"You were supposed to stay lost, Christopher,"
Vance hissed, pulling a small silver syringe from his pocket. It contained the same experimental sedative that had wiped Christopher's memory three years ago, after he had discovered Arthur's massive financial embezzlement scheme.

Madeline struggled against the guard holding her back. "Let him go! If you touch him, I will destroy everything my father built!" she screamed, her designer sunglasses falling to the pavement and shattering. She knew that her father had staged Christopher’s death after a staged car crash, keeping him drugged and wandering the streets as a nameless transient to avoid a murder investigation.

Christopher looked at Madeline, his scarred face contorted in a painful battle with his own mind. The sight of her tears and the gold emblem on the ring seemed to shatter the chemical walls in his brain. "Madeline..." he gasped, his voice cracking.

"I remember... the warehouse... your father..."

Vance’s face hardened. "Inject him. Now!" he ordered. But Madeline had anticipated this. She reached into her trench coat and pulled out a small voice recorder, holding it high. "I have been recording this entire confrontation, Vance! It is streaming live to a secure server. If that needle touches him, the police, the FBI, and the media will receive the full files on my father's crimes within seconds." The guards froze, looking at Vance for instructions as the crowd of onlookers began filming with their phones.
