A Wealthy Husband Finds His Long-Lost Daughter Working as His Wife's Maid
Previously: When wealthy Edward returned home early to his luxurious mansion, he expected a quiet evening. Instead, he found his estranged daughter scrubbing the marble floors—and his snobbish wife treating her like garbage.
The Cost of Redemption
Before Edward could plead for his daughter's forgiveness, the heavy double doors of the study swung open. Margaret stood on the threshold, her eyes narrowing as she took in the scene of her husband standing incredibly close to the crying maid.
"What on earth is going on here?"
Margaret demanded, her voice turning cold as ice. "Edward, why are you touching the help? And why is she crying? Did she steal something?" Margaret marched over, grabbing Sophie roughly by the arm. "Pack your things and get out of my house. You're fired, and I will personally see to it that no agency in this city ever hires you again, you pathetic little thief!"
Sophie gasped, fresh tears spilling over her lashes as she tried to pull away. But before Margaret could drag her toward the door, Edward stepped forward. With a strength he hadn't felt in years, he firmly grabbed Margaret’s wrist and forced her to release his daughter.
"Don't you dare touch her,"
Edward growled, his voice shaking with a dangerous mixture of rage and resolve. Margaret stared at him, utterly stunned. "Have you lost your mind, Edward? You're defending a maid over your wife?"
Edward looked at Sophie, seeing the terrified, beautiful young woman who carried his eyes and his late wife's gentle spirit. The golden cage he had lived in for twelve years suddenly felt like a tomb. He looked back at Margaret, his expression hardening.
"She isn't just a maid, Margaret. She is my daughter."
The revelation hung in the air like a thunderclap. Margaret’s jaw dropped, her face twisting in disgust as she realized the implications. "Your daughter? You lied to me! If you think you're bringing your trashy past into my life, you're mistaken. If you side with her, you leave this house with absolutely nothing. The prenuptial agreement ensures you won't get a single dime!"
Edward looked at the sprawling double staircase, the marble floors, and the crystal chandeliers. Then he looked at Sophie, who was staring at him in disbelief. He smiled softly, a weight lifting from his shoulders. He slowly took off his platinum wedding band and placed it on the console table, alongside his expensive watch.
"Keep the money, Margaret. I finally have what actually matters,"
Edward said quietly. He wrapped his arm around Sophie’s shoulders, guiding her toward the massive front doors. As they walked out together into the warm afternoon sun, Sophie looked up at her father, her tears finally drying. For the first time in twelve years, Edward felt truly wealthy, realizing that a second chance at being a father was worth more than all the gold in the world.
