A Wealthy Man Stopped for Two Boys Selling a Toy, and Found His Lost Love
Previously: When a wealthy businessman stops to buy a vintage toy car from two young boys on the street, he discovers a heartbreaking truth that connects them to his own forgotten past.
The Truth in Apartment 3B
Teddy's quiet reply shattered Edwardβs composure.
"Her name is Clara," the little boy murmured, looking down at his worn sneakers.
The name hit Edward like a physical blow. Clara. The only woman he had ever loved, the woman who had vanished from his life ten years ago after his wealthy, controlling father had threatened to ruin her family. Edward had been told she took a payoff and moved away, but he had never truly believed it. He insisted on walking the boys home, his heart hammering against his ribs as they led him to a dilapidated apartment building just two blocks away.
The narrow hallways smelled of damp concrete and old paint. Liam unlocked the door to Apartment 3B, and Edward stepped into a sparsely furnished but spotlessly clean living room. On a faded sofa in the corner lay a woman wrapped in a thin blanket. Even with her pale skin and hollow cheeks, Edward recognized her instantly. It was Clara. She opened her eyes, gasping as her gaze locked onto his.
"Edward?" she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "How... how did you find us?"
Edward rushed to her side, falling to his knees and grasping her cold hand. As tears welled in Clara's eyes, she revealed the devastating truth. She had been pregnant when his father forced her away. Liam and Teddy were his sons. She had worked herself to exhaustion to raise them alone, but now, a severe heart condition had left her unable to work or afford the lifesaving treatment she desperately needed.
Before Edward could even process the shock of becoming a father, the apartment door flew open. A sharp-faced man in a cheap suit stepped inside, flanked by two burly security guards. It was Richard, his father's personal attorney. Richard held a stack of legal documents, sneering at Clara, completely blind to Edward sitting in the shadows.
"Your time is up, Clara," Richard barked. "Sign these custody papers over to the patriarch, or we will have you evicted and declared unfit by tomorrow morning."
