Richard gently guided the two children to a quiet booth in the corner of the bakery. He ordered Sarah to bring over fresh milk, hot soup, and a basket of warm rolls immediately. As Toby and Lily ate ravenously, Richard could not take his eyes off them. Toby’s emerald green eyes were the exact shade of his estranged daughter Emily’s eyes. Emily had run away ten years ago after a bitter argument, and Richard had spent a decade searching for her in vain.
