A Wealthy Man Ignored a Crying Boy Until He Saw the Toy in the Child's Hand
Previously: When a wealthy businessman stops his luxury car for a sobbing child begging for help, he has no idea that a dusty toy car will rewrite his entire future.
The Secret in the Alleyway
Julian didn't hesitate. Leaving his luxury car idling in the middle of the busy street, he ran alongside the little boy into the shadowed alley. There, collapsed behind a stack of wooden pallets, lay a young woman. Her face was deathly pale, her breathing shallow and ragged. Julian knelt beside her, checking her pulse. It was faint and dangerously rapid. He realized instantly that waiting for an ambulance in the gridlocked city traffic would take too long.
Without worrying about his tailored charcoal suit, Julian scooped the unconscious woman into his arms. He carried her back to his yellow sedan, carefully placing her in the leather backseat. The little boy scrambled in right after her, still sobbing and clutching his blue toy car. Julian slammed the doors, ran to the driver's seat, and sped toward the nearest hospital, ignoring the frantic calls from his business partners buzzing on his dashboard.
Arriving at the emergency room, doctors rushed the woman inside. Julian sat in the waiting room, trying to soothe the terrified little boy. "She's going to be okay, buddy," Julian whispered, wiping a tear from the boy's cheek. To distract him, Julian pointed at the blue toy car. "That's a cool car you have there. What's your name?"
The boy sniffled, holding it out.
"My name is Toby," the boy whispered. "My mommy gave me this. She said it belonged to a very brave man."
Julian took the toy car. His breath caught in his throat. It was an old, die-cast metal model, heavily scratched, but on the bottom, a hand-engraved name was still visible: Julian - 1999. Julian's mind raced. He had owned this exact toy as a child, and he had given it to only one person in his entire life—his college sweetheart, Clara, who had vanished without a trace seven years ago.
