A Wealthy Man Rejects a Homeless Boy Until a Faded Photo Changes Everything
Previously: When wealthy Edward orders a dirty street child to leave his garden party, the boy hands him a faded photograph that unravels a long-buried secret from his past.
The Ghost of the Past
The garden party was forgotten in an instant. Ignoring the bewildered whispers of his wealthy guests, Edward grabbed his car keys and demanded that Sam take him to his mother. During the frantic drive across the city to the municipal hospital, Edward’s mind raced with a torrent of long-buried memories.
Ten years ago, Clara had vanished without a trace. Edward’s powerful father, Harold, had claimed she took a payoff to leave him. Heartbroken, Edward had eventually accepted the lie, throwing himself into the family business. Now, looking at the boy sitting beside him in the luxury SUV, the truth was starting to unravel.
They arrived at the crowded, sterile charity ward. Laying on a narrow cot was Clara. She was pale and terribly thin, but her eyes still held the same gentle light Edward had fallen in love with. When she saw him, her lips parted in a weak smile.
"Edward... you came,"
she whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of medical monitors.
"Clara, why didn't you tell me? Why did you run away?"
Edward asked, kneeling by her bedside and taking her frail hand. Clara shook her head weakly, tears spilling onto her pillow.
"Your father threatened to destroy my family's livelihood if I stayed. I didn't know I was pregnant with Sam until after I fled. I wanted to protect him from your family's cruelty."
Before Edward could process the immense guilt washing over him, the heavy door of the ward swung open. Harold, Edward's father, stepped into the room, flanked by two stern-faced corporate attorneys. His expression was cold and unyielding.
"Step away from them, Edward,"
Harold commanded, his voice dripping with authority. He threw a document onto the bedside table.
"This is a scam. We ran tests years ago when she tried to extort us. The boy is not yours. Come back to the estate, or you will be completely disinherited."
