Previously: When Charles kicked an elderly woman outside his wife's luxury maternity suite, he thought he was protecting his high-society reputation. He had no idea he just ruined his entire future.

The Truth Revealed on the Cold Floor

Clara lay on the floor, tears of physical and emotional pain streaming down her wrinkled cheeks. She looked up at her only son, the boy she had worked three jobs to put through college. "Charles... why?" she whispered, her voice trembling as she tried to gather her spilled apples.

Charles merely sneered, leaning down to hiss in her ear so his wife wouldn't hear through the glass.

"Get out of here, old woman. You don’t belong in our world. If you ruin this for me, I will make sure you never see a dime of support again," he threatened.

Jessica walked out of the room, cradling the baby, her eyes glittering with malice. "Charles, darling, who is this beggar? Get security to throw her out. She’s getting her cheap apples all over the clean floor. It’s disgusting," she said, sniffing delicately as she adjusted the baby's designer blanket.

Before Charles could call security, a commanding voice echoed down the hall. "What is going on here?" It was Dr. Julian Vance, the chief of medicine and the hospital's director. Charles immediately straightened his tie, putting on his best salesman smile. "Dr. Vance! Thank goodness. This homeless woman snuck into the luxury wing and is harassing my family. I was just having her removed."

But Dr. Vance didn't look at Charles. His eyes were wide with horror as he looked at the elderly woman on the floor. To Charles and Jessica's absolute shock, the chief of medicine rushed forward and dropped to his knees beside Clara. "Mrs. Sterling!" Dr. Vance cried, gently helping her sit up. "Oh my goodness, are you alright? What happened?"

Charles froze, his heart dropping into his stomach. "Mrs... Sterling? Dr. Vance, you must be mistaken. This is just a poor stranger."
