Previously: When a wealthy businessman stops to ask two young boys why they are selling their favorite toy on an autumn sidewalk, their heartbreaking answer leads him straight to a past he thought he lost forever.

The Ghost from the Past

William insisted on walking the boys back to their home, his mind racing with a turbulent mix of disbelief and hope. They led him to a run-down apartment complex just a few blocks away. The hallway smelled of old paint and dampness, a stark contrast to the luxurious world William inhabited. When Owen pushed open the creaking door, William stepped into a cramped, dimly lit living room.

On the worn-out sofa sat Sarah. She was pale, thin, and visibly exhausted, holding a faded blanket around her shoulders. When she looked up and saw William standing in her doorway, the color drained completely from her face. She stood up unsteadily, clutching the armrest for support. "William?" she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "How... why are you here?"

But William’s face, which had been soft moments ago, hardened into a mask of bitter resentment. The pain of a seven-year-old wound reopened instantly. "I should ask you the same thing," William said, his voice laced with venom. "Seven years ago, my father showed me the bank transfer. He showed me the contract you signed, taking five million dollars to leave me and end your pregnancy. And now I find you here, living in this place, using my sons to beg on the streets?"

Sarah stared at him, her eyes wide with horror as the puzzle pieces of their tragic separation finally fell into place.

"Five million dollars?" she gasped, tears spilling over her cheeks. "William, I never saw a single penny! Your father told me you had met someone else, that you didn't want me or the babies. He threatened to ruin my family if I ever tried to contact you again. I worked three jobs just to buy formula for our boys!"

William froze, the anger draining from his body, replaced by a sickening realization of his father's ultimate cruelty.
