A Debt That Time Couldn't Erase

Jonathan’s heart hammered against his ribs as he stood up, scanning the grand lobby. Moments later, a woman in a faded cleaning uniform hurried out of the staff elevator, her face etched with worry. This was Clara, Lucas's mother. When she saw her son holding a priceless luxury watch, her eyes widened in sheer panic.

"Lucas! What did I tell you about bothering the residents? Put that back right now!"

Clara rushed over, her hands trembling as she tried to return the watch to Jonathan. She apologized profusely, explaining that she worked as part of the building's maintenance crew and had only brought Lucas to work because she couldn't afford childcare. But Jonathan gently pushed her hands back, refusing to take the watch.

"He isn't bothering me, Clara," Jonathan said softly. "And this watch belongs to him now. Or rather, it belongs to Scott’s son."

At the mention of her late husband’s name, Clara froze.
