My Wealthy Wife Abused Our Elderly Housekeeper, Unknowing of Her True Identity
Previously: When Meredith poured red wine over their elderly housekeeper Eleanor, she thought she was just punishing a servant. She had no idea she was unlocking a devastating family secret.
The Secret in the Locket
Meredith scrambled to her feet, her face red with embarrassment and anger. She smoothed down her stained pantsuit, pointing a trembling finger at her husband.
"Are you insane, Charles?" she shrieked. "You laid your hands on me for a servant? She is fired! I want this pathetic old woman out of my house this instant, and you are going to pay for what you just did!"
Ignoring his wife's hysterical demands, Charles knelt beside Eleanor. His hands, usually so steady and commanding, shook as he gently wiped the red wine from her face with a clean dish towel. His eyes were filled with tears, a sight Meredith had never witnessed in their ten years of marriage.
"Are you alright, Mom?" Charles whispered, his voice cracking.
The word hung in the air, heavy and impossible. Meredith froze, her breath catching in her throat. She stared at them, convinced she had misheard.
"What... what did you just call her?" Meredith stammered, her voice suddenly losing its venomous edge.
Charles stood up slowly, shielding the weeping housekeeper behind his broad frame. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, tarnished silver locket—one that Eleanor always wore, but which had broken off during the scuffle. He opened it, revealing a faded photograph of a young woman holding a baby boy. The woman in the photo was unmistakably a young Eleanor, and the baby had the exact same striking blue eyes as Charles.
"Eleanor is my biological mother, Meredith," Charles said, his voice deadly quiet. "She gave me up for adoption when she was a penniless teenager so I could have a better life. She spent thirty years searching for me, only to find me married to a monster like you."
