David stood paralyzed, his eyes locked on the young woman scrubbing his floors. The luxurious surroundings suddenly felt suffocating. He ignored Elizabeth's greeting and took a step toward Lily, his voice trembling with a mixture of anger and profound sorrow. "Lily? Is it really you? What are you doing here?" he demanded, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

Elizabeth’s hand froze mid-air, her elegant composure slipping for a fraction of a second before a cold smile returned to her face. She took a slow sip of her wine and walked over to her husband, placing a manicured hand on his arm. "Darling, don't tell me you know the new help. I hired her from the agency this morning. She's been slacking off and crying all day," she said, her tone dripping with condescension.

David violently shook his arm free from Elizabeth’s grip. He knelt down on the wet, soapy marble, completely disregarding his expensive suit. He grabbed Lily’s hands, forcing her to stop scrubbing.

"Look at me, Lily. Please," he pleaded, his eyes filling with tears. "Where have you been? I've been looking for you for years!"

Lily finally looked up, her eyes red and swollen.

"You stopped looking, Dad," she sobbed. "You married her, moved into this mansion, and forgot all about mom and me. I sent you letters. I called your office. I was told to never contact you again."

David’s head snapped toward Elizabeth, his expression turning to one of pure fury. The pieces of the puzzle were starting to fall into place. Elizabeth had always been protective of his wealth, but he never imagined her capable of such cruelty.
