A Scene of Public Humiliation

The grand ballroom of the Carlton Estate was filled with the clinking of crystal glasses and soft classical music, but the elegant atmosphere shattered in an instant. Vivienne, draped in a stunning crimson gown that practically screamed wealth and power, lunged forward and grabbed the arm of a young waitress. The girl, Daisy, trembled in her simple bistro uniform, nearly dropping her tray of champagne glasses. Vivienne's eyes flashed with pure malice as she held her grip tight.

'Tell them where you hid my necklace!' Vivienne shrieked, her voice echoing across the silent room.

Guests turned to stare as Vivienne tightened her grip. The wealthy socialite sneered, pointing a manicured finger at the terrified girl. 'Girls like you always steal what you can't have. You saw something expensive and thought you could get away with it!'

Tears streamed down Daisy’s face as she reached into her pocket. She wasn't hiding anything. With shaking hands, she held up a delicate, heart-shaped gold necklace. It was worn and ancient, completely unlike the modern diamonds Vivienne usually wore. 'Please,' Daisy sobbed, her voice cracking under the weight of the accusation. 'Please, just check the engraving on the back. It’s mine. It has always been mine.'

Before Vivienne could snatch it away, her husband, Edward, stepped forward. His grey hair catching the warm banquet lights, the distinguished man in the tailored blazer gently took the necklace from Daisy's palm. He turned it over, his eyes narrowing as he read the faint, elegant script carved into the gold. His breath hitched.

'That engraving... only my wife had one like that,' Edward murmured, his voice barely a whisper.

He slowly looked up from the jewelry, his gaze locking onto Daisy's tear-stained face. He took in the shape of her jaw, the unique amber hue of her eyes, and the small birthmark near her temple. A shockwave of recognition washed over him. 'My God,' he whispered, stepping closer. 'Her face...'
