Previously: When a wealthy woman is confronted outside a luxury boutique by a drenched teenager holding a faded baby photo, a long-buried secret threatens to shatter her perfect life.

The Secrets of the Past

The rain continued to pour, washing away the carefully constructed facade Victoria had spent nearly two decades building. The boy in front of her was Leo, the child she had been told was adopted by a wealthy, loving family in another state. At nineteen, she had been forced by her powerful father to give up her newborn son to protect the family's social standing.

"Where did you get that picture?" Victoria whispered, her voice barely audible over the rumbling city traffic. "Who gave this to you?"
"The woman who raised me," Leo replied, his body shaking violently from the cold. "She died last week in a state-run nursing home. Before she passed, she gave me this photo. She told me you paid her a lump sum to take me away and never look back. She said you bought your freedom with my life."

Victoria felt a sickening wave of nausea. She had never paid anyone. Her father had handled the entire adoption process, assuring her that her baby was going to a licensed agency. Now, looking at Leo's ragged clothes and hollow cheeks, the horrifying truth became clear. Her father had bribed a desperate, impoverished woman to take the baby and disappear, leaving Leo to grow up in poverty.

Just as Victoria reached out a trembling hand toward her son, the headlights of another car illuminated the wet pavement. Her husband, Richard, stepped out of a luxury SUV that had just pulled up behind them.

"Victoria? What’s going on here?" Richard asked, his brow furrowed in confusion as he looked at the drenched teenager. "Who is this kid, and why is he touching our car?"

Victoria froze. Richard knew nothing of her past. Revealing Leo's identity would not only shatter her marriage but also destroy the life she had built. Yet, looking at her son's heartbroken expression, she knew she couldn't lie anymore.

"Richard," Victoria said, her voice shaking but resolute. "This is Leo. He... he is my son."
