Previously: When Eleanor proposed to Michael on a crowded street, it wasn't romance—it was a desperate rescue mission to restore the memory of an empire's stolen heir.

The Flight and the Confrontation

Adrenaline surged through Eleanor’s veins. She grabbed Michael’s calloused hand, pulling him to his feet just as a guard’s hand brushed her shoulder. Together, they bolted into the bustling crowd, dodging through the subway entrance and slipping onto a departing train just before the steel doors slid shut. The guards were left standing on the platform, furious and empty-handed.

They sought refuge in an old, abandoned warehouse on the industrial edge of the city. Inside the dusty, cavernous space, Michael collapsed against a wooden crate, clutching his head in agony. The gold emblem had cracked open a floodgate of fractured memories in his mind. Images of a burning car, a hospital room, and Eleanor’s smiling face flashed before his eyes.

“I know you,” Michael whispered, his voice shaking as he looked up at her. “I remember the crash. I remember... everything. They threw me away, Eleanor.”

Before Eleanor could embrace him, the heavy iron doors of the warehouse groaned open. The bright, blinding headlights of three black SUVs cut through the darkness, illuminating the swirling dust. From the center vehicle stepped Richard, Eleanor’s stepfather, flanked by armed security guards.

Richard smiled a cold, triumphant smile as he walked toward them, the clicking of his leather shoes echoing ominously. “Did you really think you could run from me, Eleanor?” he sneered, gesturing to his guards to surround them. He pointed a weapon directly at Michael’s chest. “You were supposed to stay dead, Vance. Now, sign the inheritance transfer papers, Eleanor, or your beloved fiancé dies right here, and this time, there will be no body to find.”

Eleanor stood frozen, her hand shaking as Richard’s assistant stepped forward with a clipboard and a pen. She was trapped, with no way out and Michael’s life hanging by a thread.
