Previously: When wealthy Victoria humiliated Lily in an upscale boutique, snatching her cheap locket, she expected to ruin her. Instead, the elderly jeweler recognized the heirloom, unlocking a decades-old family secret.

Secrets of the Past Unlocked

The silence in the boutique was deafening. Victoria’s malicious smirk instantly vanished, replaced by a look of sharp annoyance. She stepped closer to the counter, her high heels clicking loudly against the marble floor.

“Don't be ridiculous, Arthur,” Victoria snapped, crossing her arms. “This girl is a nobody. She probably found that piece of junk in a gutter, or worse, she stole it from someone who actually matters.”

But Arthur completely ignored the wealthy woman. His tear-filled eyes were locked onto Lily’s face, searching her features with a desperate, burning intensity. He saw the shape of her jaw, the unique amber hue of her eyes, and the way she held herself. He choked back a sob.

“What was your mother’s name, child?” Arthur asked, his voice shaking with a lifetime of accumulated grief.

Lily swallowed the lump in her throat, her heart hammering against her ribs.

“Her name was Rosemary. Rosemary Vance,” Lily replied softly. “She passed away last month.”

Arthur let out a ragged cry, clutching the silver locket to his chest as if it were a precious lifeline. With trembling fingers, he reached into his vest pocket, pulled out a small brass key, and unlocked a heavy wooden drawer beneath the counter. From the dark depths of the drawer, he retrieved a velvet pouch. Inside was an identical silver locket, but it was missing its right half.

With a soft click, the two pieces joined together perfectly, forming a complete, intricate silver heart. The engraving on the back aligned seamlessly, reading: Together Forever, My Darling.

Victoria’s face turned pale. She knew the history of Arthur’s family all too well. Thirty years ago, Arthur’s daughter Rosemary had vanished overnight, taking her newborn child with her. Arthur had spent decades searching, but Victoria’s mother, who managed the local estate records, had eventually presented Arthur with official documents stating that Rosemary and her baby had tragically perished in a house fire in another state.

“This is a lie,” Victoria whispered, her voice cracking as she backed away. “My mother showed you the death certificates, Arthur! This girl is an impostor trying to swindle an old man!”
