A Wedding Day Shattered

The penthouse dining room was a symphony of opulence. Crystal chandeliers dripped amber light onto white rose arches, reflecting in the polished mahogany floors. Outside, a thunderstorm raged, the city skyline a blur of flashing lightning behind rain-streaked glass. This was the scene for Courtney Sterling and Noah Moretti’s black-tie wedding gala. Courtney, 29, exuded an arrogant, patrician air in his midnight-blue velvet tuxedo. Noah, 19, a stark contrast with his soft, boyish features and oversized charcoal suit, trembled, overwhelmed. His father, Salvatore Moretti, 58, a man built of weathered resilience, stood a little apart, his working-class posture a solid anchor in the lavish room.

Suddenly, a sharp, sickening crack cut through the polite murmur of the gala. Courtney Sterling had slapped Noah across the face with blistering velocity. Noah’s head snapped back, his wire-rim glasses spinning across the floor as he stumbled into a floral pillar. A crimson welt bloomed on his cheek. He stood frozen, tears welling, his breath hitching, a picture of paralyzed shock. Courtney, with a venomous sneer, brushed imaginary dust from his lapels. “Get your filthy paws off my tuxedo, you useless burden!” he sneered, his voice laced with pure contempt. Noah remained silent, mouth shut, chin quivering.

“Get your filthy paws off my tuxedo, you useless burden!”

Horrified guests froze, champagne flutes suspended mid-air. Salvatore Moretti, his broad shoulders seeming to fill the space as he stepped into the chandelier's glow, watched his son. His burly frame towered, thick calloused knuckles whitening as his fists clenched. His jaw tightened, masseter muscles bulging beneath greying stubble. His steely dark eyes narrowed, a predatory focus settling on Courtney. Courtney, still smirking, mocked him. “What are you looking at, old man? Take your defect son out through the service elevator!” The insult hung heavy in the air, thick with unspoken history and class disdain. Salvatore remained silent, his slow breath fueling an unyielding advance.
