Previously: What was supposed to be the happiest day of Clara’s life turns into a warzone when armed mercenaries crash her reception—only to realize the bride is far more dangerous than they ever anticipated.

The Final Vow

Clara slowly raised her hands, her expression softening into one of apparent defeat. She took a slow step toward Marcus, her eyes pleading. "Okay," she whispered. "Just don't hurt him. I'll go with you." Marcus smiled triumphantly, lowering his guard for a fraction of a second. That was all the invitation Clara needed.

In a flash, Clara snatched a heavy silver champagne bucket from a nearby table and hurled it directly at Marcus's face. As he ducked, she slid across the polished floor, snatched a discarded tactical baton from the fallen mercenary, and swept Marcus’s legs out from under him. He crashed hard onto the floor. Before he could recover, Clara pinned him down, the heavy heel of her shoe pressed firmly against his throat.

"Tell your bosses that if they ever send anyone after me again, I won't just hide," Clara hissed. "I will come for them. And I never miss."

Marcus, gasping for air, nodded weakly. Clara kicked him unconscious, disarmed the remaining mercenaries, and immediately knelt beside Julian. Tears finally spilled from her eyes as she searched his face, terrified of the rejection she might find there.

"Julian, I am so sorry," she sobbed. "I wanted to tell you. I wanted to protect you."

Julian looked at his bride—her white dress stained with dirt and sweat, her hair wild, yet her eyes filled with raw, vulnerable love. Slowly, he reached up and cupped her cheek. "You saved my life," he whispered, a faint smile breaking through his shock. "And we did say 'in sickness and in health,' didn't we?"

Sirens wailed in the distance as the police approached. Clara knew her quiet life would have to wait; she had a syndicate to dismantle once and for all. But as she helped Julian up, she knew she wasn't running alone anymore. True love does not fear the shadows of the past; it stands beside you to fight them.
