The diner’s bell chimed sharply as the heavy glass door swung open, letting in a gust of cold, wet wind. A man in an expensive, tailored wool coat stepped inside, flanked by two burly security guards. It was Marcus, Lily’s wealthy stepfather. His eyes scanned the diner until they landed on Lily, who was hiding behind Jax’s massive shoulder. A cruel, triumphant smile spread across Marcus’s face.

"There you are, Lily," Marcus sneered, taking a step forward. "You’ve run far enough. Hand over what you stole from my safe, and maybe I won't have you arrested."

Lily gripped the back of Jax’s leather vest, her knuckles turning white. "I didn't steal anything, Marcus! It belonged to my mother! You lied about how she died, and you hid her true will!" she cried out, her voice filled with a mixture of terror and anger.

Marcus chuckled darkly, waving his hand dismissively. "Nobody is going to believe a word you say, girl. Now, step away from those thugs and come with me."

Jax took a slow, deliberate step forward, his boots heavy on the checkered floor. The sheer physical presence of the giant biker made Marcus’s guards instantly tense up. Jax glared down at the wealthy man, his voice dripping with ice.

"She said she’s not going anywhere with you," Jax rumbled. "And around here, we don't take kindly to people who threaten family."

Marcus scoffed, looking at Jax’s leather vest, which bore the patch of the Iron Brotherhood. "Do you have any idea who I am? I can buy this entire town. Step aside, old man."

Jax’s eyes narrowed as he noticed a gold signet ring on Marcus’s hand—a ring bearing the crest of a corrupt logistics company that had ruined many lives in their county years ago.
