But everything shattered when she accidentally discovered a hidden compartment in her husband Julian’s study. Inside was a ledger detailing millions of dollars in illegal payoffs, linking Julian—a prominent city councilman—to a powerful local syndicate. Worse, several high-ranking police officers, including the two currently searching the scrap yard, were on his payroll.

When Julian realized she knew, his mask of the loving husband slipped instantly. He threatened her, but Clara knew she had to protect Maya. She grabbed the ledger, took her daughter, and fled into the night. Just as the beam illuminated her face, she swung it with all her might, striking the officer's flashlight and hand. The light shattered, plunging them into darkness as the officer cried out in pain.
