Previously: After a car accident left Robert relying on his wife Emily, he believed his sight was permanently fading—until a neighbor's little girl whispered a terrifying secret in their garden.

The heavy silver tray slipped from Emily’s hands, crashing onto the stone path with a deafening clatter. Shattered porcelain and dark, steaming liquid splattered across her beige dress. For a second, nobody moved. The silence that followed was heavy, thick with a sudden, suffocating betrayal.

The Shattered Illusion

Emily recovered first. Her face, usually a mask of gentle concern, twisted into a frantic panic. She rushed forward, her heels clicking sharply against the stone.

"Maya, go home! Right now!" Emily screamed, her voice shrill and desperate. "You don't know what you're talking about!"

The little girl took a step back but didn't run. She kept her eyes on Robert, who was struggling to stand. His legs felt like lead, a familiar weakness washing over him—the same weakness that had plagued him for months.

"Robert, darling, she's just a child," Emily pleaded, grabbing his arm. Her grip was tight, almost bruising. "She's playing a cruel game. You know how sick you've been since the accident."

But looking at Emily through his blurred vision, Robert saw something he hadn't noticed before: the sheer terror in her eyes. It wasn't the terror of a loving wife worried about her sick husband. It was the fear of being caught.

"What did you put in my tea, Emily?" Robert asked, his voice shaking.

Emily stammered, backward-stepping as Robert pulled his arm away from her touch. As she moved, a small, dark blue dropper bottle slipped from her apron pocket and rolled across the stone path, stopping right at Robert's feet.

Emily gasped and lunged for it, but Robert, driven by a sudden surge of adrenaline, stepped on the bottle, crushing the glass beneath his shoe. A thick, clear liquid oozed onto the stone.

"Explain this," Robert whispered, his world spinning.

Emily stopped. The panic on her face slowly hardened into a cold, chilling expression of pure malice.

"You were never supposed to find out, Robert," she said softly. "But now, you've left me with no choice."
