Previously: When Richard dropped a Polaroid of his late wife, a little girl picked it up and asked why he had a picture of her mother. The truth changed his life forever.

Richard’s legs felt like lead as he followed the little girl, Olivia, down the narrow passage. His mind screamed that this was an impossibility, a cruel trick of fate or a hallucination born from nine years of endless grieving. Yet, as he watched the bounce of Olivia’s curly hair, he saw the undeniable resemblance. He was chasing a ghost, hoping against hope that the ghost was flesh and blood.

The Confrontation at the Bakery

They turned the corner onto a bustling plaza. Olivia pointed toward a small outdoor café. "There she is!" she cried, running ahead. Sitting at a wrought-iron table, sipping tea and reading a book, was a woman. Richard stopped dead in his tracks. The world around him faded into white noise. It was Clara. She was slightly older, her face matured, but it was unmistakably her.

When Clara looked up and saw Olivia approaching, her eyes naturally drifted to the man standing behind her daughter. The moment their eyes locked, Clara’s teacup shattered on the stone floor. She stood up, her face turning deathly pale. She clutched her head, a low groan of pain escaping her lips.

"Richard?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "How... why does my head hurt so much?"

Before Richard could take another step, a tall, imposing man in an expensive suit emerged from the bakery. He immediately placed himself between Richard and Clara, his eyes flashing with hostility. This was Julian, a powerful businessman who had suddenly appeared in Clara's life after her accident.

"Who are you, and why are you harassing my family?" Julian demanded, his voice low and dangerous.

"Clara?" Richard gasped, ignoring the man. "Clara, it's me! You're alive!"

Julian grabbed Clara’s arm roughly, pulling her away. "Her name is Eleanor, and she is my wife. We are leaving. Now." He reached into his coat, hinting at a concealed weapon. The tension was palpable as Olivia began to cry, caught in the middle of a terrifying secret.
