My Wife Treated My Daughter Like a Maid Until a Silver Bracelet Revealed the Truth
Previously: When David returned home early, he found his young daughter Lily cleaning the mansion floor in tears, holding a secret silver bracelet that exposed his wife's darkest betrayal.
The Secret Compartment
David pushed past Victoria, his protective instincts taking over. He knelt beside Lily, gently taking the heavy silver bracelet from her small, shaking hands. Victoria watched him, her knuckles turning white as she gripped her wine glass. She knew the secrets that lay buried within that silver band, secrets she had desperately searched for after the old man's sudden passing.
David turned the bracelet over, his jeweler’s eye catching a tiny, almost invisible seam near the clasp. He pressed his thumb against a hidden pressure point. With a soft click, a secret compartment popped open, revealing a tightly rolled slip of parchment paper.
"David, please," Victoria stammered, stepping forward with a desperate, forced smile. "Your father was senile at the end. He was hallucinating. You can't possibly believe the ramblings of a dying man."
Ignoring his wife, David unrolled the paper. The handwriting was undeniably his father’s, written in the frantic, shaky script of his final days. As David read the words, the air in the grand foyer seemed to grow thin.
"David, if you are reading this, I am already gone," the note began. "Do not trust Victoria. She has been intercepting my medical reports. She is slowly poisoning me to hasten the inheritance, and she treats Lily like a servant the moment you leave the house. I have hidden the real will in the safe behind my study portrait. Lily is the sole heir. Protect her."
A cold dread washed over David. He looked up from the paper, his eyes locking onto Victoria, whose face had drained of all color. She dropped her wine glass, and it shattered on the marble floor, the red liquid pooling like blood between them.
"You monster," David whispered, his voice shaking with pure rage. "You did this to my father? And to my daughter?"
Realizing she was caught, Victoria's demeanor instantly shifted from panic to cold malice. She lunged forward, trying to snatch the note from David's hand. "That paper proves nothing! It's the word of a crazy old man!"
