She Thought the Rough Biker Group Was a Threat Until He Revealed His True Identity
A Cold Winter Reunion
The winter wind howled through the concrete pillars of the brick library, biting through Chloe’s gray wool coat. She pulled her yellow knit hat lower over her ears, her hands trembling as she clutched the straps of her heavy backpack. To any passerby, she was just another nineteen-year-old college student trying to survive finals week. But Chloe wasn't waiting for a bus. She was waiting for her fate.
Behind her, on the library's concrete steps, stood Mr. Henderson, the elderly security guard who had kept her company during the library's closing hours. He looked at her anxious face and offered a reassuring smile. "You'll be fine. Breathe, kiddo," he said, his voice a warm comfort in the freezing air.
Chloe tried to inhale, but her lungs seized up. The distant rumble of heavy engines began to vibrate through the soles of her boots. The sound grew louder, a deafening chorus of steel and gasoline that shattered the quiet winter afternoon. Down the street, a fleet of gleaming motorcycles emerged from the gray mist, kicking up loose snow as they rode in perfect formation.
At the front of the pack was a massive black chopper. The rider, a rugged man around thirty-eight with a distressed leather jacket and dark sunglasses, commanded the street with effortless authority. He slowed his bike to a stop right in front of Chloe, the engine idling with a low, menacing growl. The other riders pulled up behind him, forming an imposing wall of leather and chrome.
Chloe's heart hammered against her ribs. She took a step back, her instinct screaming at her to run. But then, the lead rider pushed his sunglasses down his nose, revealing a pair of surprisingly warm, familiar blue eyes. He looked at Chloe, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips.
"Hey there. Looking for a ride?"
The tension in Chloe's shoulders suddenly dissolved, replaced by a strange, overwhelming sense of relief. She swallowed the lump in her throat and managed a small, breathless reply.
"I... guess I am."
