A Trembling Girl Begs A Rough Biker For Help, Unlocking A Deep Family Secret
The neon sign of the Route 99 Diner flickered weakly against the torrential downpour. Inside, the air smelled of stale coffee, grease, and impending trouble. Lily shivered in her damp pink sweater, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. Through the rain-streaked glass doors, she could see the headlights of a black SUV creeping closer. She was out of options, out of breath, and out of time.
Desperate, she looked around the diner. At the counter sat Jax, a broad-shouldered, bald Caucasian biker whose imposing presence alone could deter most men. His leather vest bore the insignia of a fierce motorcycle club. Taking a deep breath, Lily approached him. Her hand trembled as she reached out, gently tapping him on his massive shoulder.
"Um, sir?" she whispered, her voice cracking.
Jax slowly turned his bearded face, his sharp gray eyes sizing her up. He didn't look angry, just mildly annoyed.
"What is it, kid?" he grunted, his voice deep and gravelly.
The camera of her mind flashed back to the headlights outside. Heavy rain continued to lash against the glass doors. Lily swallowed hard, nodding toward the entrance.
"Look back," she whispered.
Jax glanced toward the door, his eyes narrowing as he spotted the dark figures stepping out of the SUV. His demeanor shifted instantly from indifference to cold alertness. He muttered under his breath:
"Right. Stay close."
He stood up, towering over her, and began leading Lily down the checkered aisle of the diner. Behind him, other burly bikers, including his loyal brother Cole, slid out of their booths, their faces hardening. Jax looked ahead protectively, his broad chest shielding Lily from view.
"Nobody touches her," Jax declared, his voice leaving no room for argument.
"We know," Cole responded, cracking his knuckles as they prepared for whatever was coming through those doors.
