Previously: When terrified Lily ran into a stormy diner and begged a rough biker for protection, she had no idea their sudden meeting would uncover a long-lost family secret.

A Family Shielded by Iron

Marcus’s sneer faltered, replaced by a momentary flash of panic. He reached toward his jacket, but before he could even touch his holster, Cole and three other bikers closed the distance, pinning Marcus's arms behind his back. The two henchmen quickly backed away, realizing they were severely outnumbered and outmatched by the furious Iron Brotherhood.

"You think you can just take her?" Jax growled, stepping close enough for Marcus to smell the leather and tobacco on him. "I've spent ten years looking for Sarah's daughter. I know all about your illegal operations, Marcus. If you ever look in her direction again, those documents I have will find their way to the federal authorities. Now, get out of my sight."

With a rough shove from Cole, Marcus and his men were ejected into the pouring rain. They scrambled back to their SUV and sped away into the dark night, their headlights disappearing into the storm.

The diner fell silent, save for the hum of the neon lights and the steady patter of rain. Lily stood frozen, her eyes wide as she looked at the giant man who had just saved her life. Jax turned to her, his tough exterior melting away. He reached into his pocket and handed her the worn photograph. Lily looked at her mother’s smiling face, then up at Jax.

"I thought I was completely alone in the world," Lily sobbed, the tears finally overflowing.

Jax smiled gently, wrapping his massive, tattooed arm around her shoulders and pulling her into a warm embrace. He took off his heavy leather jacket and draped it over her shivering shoulders.

"You're not alone anymore, Lily," Jax said softly. "You've got a whole family now."

Sometimes, the scariest-looking people are the ones who carry the most protective hearts, proving that family is not just about the blood we share, but the promises we keep to protect one another.
