Previously: When terrified Lily ran into a stormy diner and begged a rough biker for protection, she had no idea their sudden meeting would uncover a long-lost family secret.

The Storm Inside

The diner's bell chimed sharply as the heavy glass door swung open, letting in a gust of cold, wet wind. Three men in dark suits stepped inside, dripping rain onto the checkered floor. At the front was Marcus, a ruthless local loan shark known for his cruelty. He scanned the diner until his eyes landed on Lily, who was hiding behind Jax’s massive frame.

"Well, well," Marcus sneered, wiping rain from his forehead. "I didn't think you'd run into a den of grease monkeys, Lily. Step aside, boys. The girl has something that belongs to me, and she’s coming home."

Jax didn't flinch. He stood like an iron wall, his arms crossed over his chest.

"She’s not going anywhere with you," Jax said, his voice dangerously calm.

Marcus laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. He took a step forward, gesturing to his hired muscle.

"Do you really want to risk your lives for a girl you don't even know, biker? She's nothing to you."

Jax stared at Marcus, his gray eyes suddenly flaring with a deep, unrecognized rage. He looked back at Lily, taking in her platinum-blonde hair and her piercing green eyes. It was a face he hadn't seen in nearly two decades, yet it was painfully familiar. Jax reached into his vest and pulled out a worn, laminated photograph of a young woman with the exact same hair and eyes, standing next to a teenage Jax.

"You're Marcus Vance," Jax said, the realization hitting him like a physical blow. "My sister, Sarah, married you before she passed away. She told me her daughter was safe with her family. But you hid her from us."

Lily gasped, clutching the back of Jax's leather vest.

"You... you knew my mother?" Lily whispered, tears welling in her eyes.
"She was my little sister, kid," Jax said softly, before turning a gaze of pure steel back to Marcus. "And you've been tormenting her daughter."

"And you've been tormenting her daughter."
