An Arrogant Champion Mocked an Older Woman, Until Her Real Name Silenced the Range
The air inside the Apex Shooting Range was thick with the scent of gunpowder and intense competition. Spectators packed the gallery, their eyes glued to the lanes where the state's finest marksmen were warming up. Among them was Luke, a smug twenty-two-year-old champion wearing a flashy red and black shooting vest. He had just finished a near-perfect round, basking in the applause of his peers.
Then, the heavy double doors swung open. Martha, a resolute woman in her mid-sixties with shoulder-length grey hair and a simple navy blue windbreaker, walked calmly toward the shooting line. In her hand, she carried a battered black gear case.
Luke smirked, nudging his friend. He stepped in her path, blocking her way to the lane.
An Unexpected Challenger
"Hey, ma'am, I think you're lost," Luke chuckled, his voice dripping with condescension. "The knitting circle is down the street. This isn't a retirement club."
The crowd chuckled, expecting the older woman to shrink back in embarrassment. Instead, Martha didn't even blink. With absolute composure, she reached into her pocket, pulled out her competition ID, and slapped it firmly onto the registration counter.
"I came here to compete," Martha said, her voice quiet but carrying an undeniable steel.
She opened her case, revealing a pristine, well-maintained pistol. Before Luke could utter another snide remark, Martha raised her weapon. With fluid, blindingly fast motions, she fired a rapid sequence of shots down the range. Bang! Bang! Bang!
Every single bullet tore through the exact center of the target, leaving one single, ragged hole.
"Impossible!" a spectator gasped from the gallery.
Behind the counter, Arthur, an older official with thick-rimmed glasses, stared at the registration sheet. He adjusted his spectacles, his hands suddenly trembling as he read the name printed on the card.
"Wait..." Arthur whispered, his voice cracking. "That name... it can't be."
โ"That name... it can't be."
