Arthur’s eyes darted from the paper to the woman standing calmly at the firing line. He remembered the name vividly: Martha Vance. Forty years ago, she had been a prodigy, destined for Olympic gold, before she suddenly vanished from the public eye.

"Is there a problem, Arthur?" Luke demanded, his face flushing red as he tried to regain his composure. "She probably just got lucky. Let me see that registration."
"This is Martha Vance, Luke," Arthur said, his voice hushed with reverence. "The 1984 national champion. She held the world record for consecutive bullseyes before you were even born."

A Legend Revealed

The whispers in the gallery died down instantly. Luke stared at Martha, his smug grin completely evaporating, replaced by a mixture of shock and stubborn denial. He couldn't let an older woman upstage him in front of his sponsors and fans.

"That was decades ago," Luke sneered, stepping closer. "The sport has changed. The technology has changed. If you're really the legend they say you are, prove it. One-on-one, sudden death. One shot each. Or are you afraid of ruining your ancient reputation?"

Martha looked at the young man. She saw the same blinding arrogance that had once ruined many talented shooters in her youth. But she also saw fear. She hadn't come here for fame or money. She had come to honor a promise.

After her husband and coach, Thomas, had passed away a year ago, she found a note he had left in her old shooting case. It read: ဢဥNever let the world make you forget who you are, Martha. Show them one last time.ဢဥ

"I accept," Martha said simply. "But let's make it interesting. If I win, you donate your entire season's sponsorship earnings to the local youth marksmanship charity."
