Previously: When young champion Luke mocked sixty-five-year-old Martha at the shooting range, he thought she was lost. But when Martha fired a perfect sequence, the truth about her past left everyone speechless.

The range fell into a breathless silence. The official, Arthur, set up a fresh target at the maximum distance. This was a shot that required absolute precision, where even a heartbeat could throw the bullet off by inches.

Luke stepped up to the line first. His hands were sweating, and his breathing was shallow. He closed his eyes, trying to block out the pressure, then opened them and raised his modern, custom-built pistol. He took his time, aiming carefully before pulling the trigger.

The shot echoed through the hall. The digital monitor flashed the score: a highly respectable 9.8. It wasn't a perfect bullseye, but under this kind of pressure, it was a champion's shot. Luke let out a breath of relief and smirked at Martha.

"Beat that," he challenged.

The Final Shot

Martha stepped up to her lane. She didn't use modern shooting glasses or specialized gear. She simply took a deep, steadying breath, closed her eyes for a brief second to picture Thomas smiling at her, and raised her classic pistol.

Without hesitation, she pulled the trigger.

The sound was deafening, followed by an immediate gasp from the crowd. The monitor flashed the final score: a flawless 10.8, dead-center.

Luke’s jaw dropped. He stared at the screen, then at Martha, completely speechless. The gallery erupted into thunderous applause, cheering for the returned legend.

Martha calmly packed her pistol back into its worn black case. She walked over to Luke, who was staring defeatedly at the floor. Instead of gloating, she gently placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You have incredible talent, young man," Martha said softly. "But a true champion respects the sport, and more importantly, respects those who paved the way. Keep practicing, and remember why you started."

With a graceful nod to Arthur and the cheering crowd, Martha walked out of the range into the bright afternoon sun, her heart finally at peace.

True mastery is not just about hitting the target, but about having the grace to lift others up once you have achieved greatness.
