A Whispered Warning in Cabin 3B

Arthur adjusted his charcoal gray cardigan, feeling a strange, heavy warmth spreading through his limbs. He attributed it to the pre-flight anxiety of a long-distance journey, but the unease in his gut refused to settle. Beside him sat his stepson, Julian, whose eyes darted nervously toward the cabin window. Arthur reached for his water bottle, taking a slow sip, unaware of the silent, predatory gaze fixed upon him from the galley.

Suddenly, a flight attendant leaned in close. Her uniform was a crisp, slate gray, but it was her eyes that caught Arthur’s attention—they were filled with a desperate, familiar terror. It was Elena, his estranged daughter whom he hadn't seen in over a decade. Before he could speak her name, she gripped his hand tightly, her voice a sharp, urgent whisper:

"Pretend you're sick and get off this plane right now."

Julian immediately stiffened, his hand shooting out to grab Arthur’s arm.

"Sit down, not yet,"
Julian commanded, his voice laced with a cold authority that startled Arthur. But the poison Elena had warned him about was already beginning to restrict Arthur's breathing.
"I... I don't feel well,"
Arthur groaned, clutching his chest as a sudden, sharp pain flared behind his ribs.

Julian’s face paled.

"Dad? What's happening?"
he shouted, a simulated panic masking his underlying fury. He tried to rise, to push Elena away, but Clara, Julian's wife sitting in the row behind, grabbed his sleeve and pulled him back with a sharp, warning glare. The surrounding passengers watched in tense, breathless silence as Elena hoisted Arthur from his seat. Stumbling and gasping for air, Arthur allowed his daughter to guide him down the narrow aisle, leaving behind the dark trap of flight 402.
