The Race Against Time on the Jet Bridge

The cool, sterile air of the jet bridge hit Arthur’s face like a shock of cold water. He collapsed against the metal railing, his breathing shallow and ragged. Elena immediately knelt beside him, her professional demeanor cracking to reveal the terrified daughter underneath. "Hold on, Dad. Paramedics are already on their way," she whispered, her hands trembling as she checked his pulse.

Arthur looked at her through blurred vision, his heart hammering violently against his ribs.

"Elena... what is happening? Why did you make me get off?"
he gasped, confused by the sudden escape and the agonizing tightness in his chest.

Elena looked back toward the aircraft doors, which were now being sealed by the ground crew.

"I saw Julian in the departure lounge, Dad,"
she explained, her voice shaking with anger and fear.
"He didn't see me. I watched him slip a vial of digitalis into your personal water flask. He knew you had a weak heart. If you had stayed on that plane, you would have suffered a massive cardiac arrest over the Atlantic, with no hospital in sight. It would have looked like natural causes."

Arthur’s world shattered. The stepson he had loved like his own, the young man he had trusted with his multi-million dollar estate, had planned to murder him in mid-air. As the realization sank in, the cabin crew inside the plane halted the departure. Elena had already alerted the captain and airport security. Through the glass window of the terminal, Arthur could see police cars racing toward the aircraft. Inside the cabin, Julian was desperately searching for the discarded water bottle, but the head purser had already secured it as evidence. The trap had snapped shut, but this time, it was the hunter who was caught.
