My Adoptive Mother Said My Real Mom Died—Then She Crashed My Wedding
The air inside the grand ballroom of the Whispering Pines estate was thick with the scent of white roses and expensive champagne. Thomas stood on the sweeping marble staircase, his hand clasped firmly in Clara’s. He looked handsome in his tailored navy tuxedo, his blond hair perfectly styled, while Clara was the picture of bridal elegance in her off-the-shoulder satin gown. Their high-society guests chatted merrily below, admiring the union of two of the city’s most prominent families. It was a perfect, carefully choreographed fairy tale.
But the fairy tale shattered when the heavy oak entrance doors creaked open. A hush fell over the crowd as an uninvited guest stepped into the foyer. She was a gaunt, older woman, her face smudged with dirt, wearing a soiled, oversized trench coat that stood in stark, tragic contrast to the opulent surroundings. She ignored the gasps of the wealthy guests and walked directly toward the staircase, her eyes locked on Thomas.
Thomas stepped forward, shielding Clara.
"You can't be here,"he said, his voice tight with a mixture of embarrassment and authority.
The woman stopped at the base of the stairs, looking up at him with a gaze that was both desperate and strangely tender.
"That's okay. Just check your phone,"she whispered.
Confused, Thomas reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. A message from an unknown number glowed on the screen. He tapped it, and an old, grainy photograph loaded. Clara leaned over his shoulder, her breath catching. The photo showed a young, exhausted woman in a hospital gown holding a newborn baby with a distinct heart-shaped birthmark on his shoulder—the very same birthmark Thomas carried. Standing beside the bed, holding a pen and a clipboard, was Thomas’s adoptive mother, Eleanor.
Thomas felt the ground tilt beneath his feet.
"This photo..."he whispered in disbelief.
Tears streamed down the older woman’s face.
"I told you I'd find you,"she sobbed.
Clara clutched her bouquet tightly, her eyes wide with panic.
"Who is she, Thomas?"she demanded.
"Who is this woman?"
”she demanded. "Who is this woman?"
