Previously: When Mariana's husband chose his toxic mother over her and physically pushed her, he didn't realize the mansion, the money, and the power all belonged to her. The ultimate payback had just begun.

The Empire Crumbles

The next morning, Ryan woke up in the master suite of the mansion, feeling a slight twinge of regret but mostly convinced that Mariana would return on her knees. After all, he believed he was the provider, the man who held the keys to their luxurious lifestyle. Eleanor joined him in the dining room, sipping imported tea. "You did the right thing, darling," she cooed. "She needed to be taught her place."

But the illusion of victory shattered within an hour. Ryan’s phone began to buzz incessantly. It was his chief financial officer. "Ryan, our venture capital funding has been pulled. The accounts are locked. We can’t make payroll."

Before Ryan could process the news, Eleanor’s credit card was declined while she attempted to book a private jet. Then, the estate’s property manager arrived with a team of security guards. "Mr. Sterling, I’m going to have to ask you and your mother to vacate the premises," the manager said politely but firmly. "The trust that owns this estate has terminated your residency lease."

Ryan’s blood ran cold. He had forgotten—or perhaps his pride had blinded him to—the reality of their marriage. The mansion, the venture capital, the black cards, and the very ground they stood on did not belong to him. They belonged to Mariana’s family trust, a massive empire she inherited. His own startup was entirely funded by her grace.

Desperate and furious, Ryan tried to call Mariana, but his calls went straight to voicemail. He dragooned a frantic Eleanor into his car and drove straight to the high-rise offices of Vance & Associates, demanding to see his wife. He was escorted into a glass-walled conference room, where Mariana sat, looking radiant and entirely unaffected, alongside a team of stern-faced attorneys.
