The lunchtime rush at the Golden Griddle diner was always chaotic, but today was different. Toby, a nineteen-year-old kitchen worker wearing a maroon t-shirt and black gloves, was frantically plating orders. Through the open kitchen window, he kept an eye on the bustling dining room. That was when he saw him—a young boy named Leo in a striped sweater, sitting with his father, Arthur. Leo’s face was turning a terrifying shade of blue. He was choking.

Without a second thought, Toby dropped his spatula and sprinted out of the kitchen. From behind him, the bald manager, Marcus, bellowed in rage.

"Get back to work, Toby! Who said you could leave your post?!"

Toby ignored the screams. He reached Leo’s table just as the boy’s father, Arthur, was panicking, unsure of what to do. Standing behind the young boy, Toby locked his hands around Leo's abdomen and performed the Heimlich maneuver with steady, practiced precision. On the third thrust, a piece of hard candy dislodged, and Leo gasped for air, crying as his breathing returned to normal.

Before Toby could even catch his breath, a heavy hand slammed onto his shoulder. It was Marcus, his face red with anger. He didn't care that a child's life had just been saved; he only cared about the interrupted workflow.

"You broke protocol, abandoned your station, and caused a scene. You're fired. Get your things and get out," Marcus sneered.

Toby’s heart sank. He desperately needed this job to pay for his college tuition. But before he could plead his case, Arthur, wearing a brown leather jacket, stepped in. He grabbed Toby's arm gently, his eyes filled with immense gratitude.

"You saved my son," Arthur said softly, before turning a fierce glare toward Marcus. He pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "This young man just saved a child's life. Yes, this is Dr. Michael Carter. I need to speak to the hospital board immediately."
