The Barefoot Stranger Who Shocked the Ballroom by Making Me Walk Again
Previously: At my family's grand gala, a tattered stranger stepped onto the ballroom floor and claimed he could do the impossible—make me stand up from my wheelchair and dance.
The Secret in the Tea
Before Clara could reach for the stranger's hand, Arthur grabbed the handles of her wheelchair, his knuckles turning white.
"This man is a lunatic! Security, drag him out of here immediately!"Arthur yelled, his voice cracking with an uncharacteristic panic. Two burly guards rushed forward, grabbing the barefoot stranger by his arms.
But the stranger did not struggle. Instead, he raised his voice so that every noble guest in the ballroom could hear him.
"Her name is Clara Montgomery, and she isn't paralyzed because of the accident, Arthur! She is paralyzed because of you!"
A collective murmur of shock erupted from the crowd. Clara looked up at her fiancé, her heart hammering against her ribs. Arthur’s face had drained of all color, his eyes darting frantically around the room.
"He's insane! Don't listen to him, Clara!"Arthur hissed, trying to wheel her toward the private exit.
"Ask him about the herbal tea he forces you to drink every single morning!"the stranger shouted as the guards dragged him backward.
"It’s laced with a rare neurotoxin that mimics spinal paralysis! I am Leo, the lab assistant he hired—and then tried to silence—when I realized what he was buying!"
Clara’s mind raced. Every morning, Arthur lovingly prepared a special botanical tea for her, claiming it was for her circulation. If she ever refused it, he would become cold and distant. The puzzle pieces fell into place with terrifying clarity.
"Arthur... is this true?"Clara whispered, her voice trembling. Arthur didn't answer; he simply pushed her faster. But as Leo struggled against the guards, a small glass vial slipped from his tattered pocket and rolled across the marble floor, stopping right at Clara's feet. It was filled with a bright blue liquid—the antidote.
