The Biker Recognized the Gold Coin and Realized Whose Son He Was Protecting
Previously: When a terrified twelve-year-old boy ran into a dusty roadside tavern pleading for help, a burly biker never expected the kid to utter a legendary name—or hand him a golden coin.
The Shadows at the Door
The heavy iron bolts slid into place just as the sound of roaring engines echoed outside. The Dusty Spur went dead silent, the few patrons diving beneath tables or slipping out the back door. Marcus ushered Leo behind the heavy oak bar, kneeling down to look the boy in the eyes.
"Listen to me, Leo," Marcus whispered, his tough exterior melting into fierce urgency. "You stay down here. No matter what you hear, you do not move. Do you understand me?"
Leo nodded rapidly, clutching the gold coin tightly against his chest.
Outside, three black SUVs screeched to a halt, kicking up plumes of dust. Car doors slammed, followed by the heavy, synchronized footsteps of armed men approaching the tavern. Marcus reached under the bar and pulled out a customized shotgun, checking the chamber with practiced ease. He had spent ten years trying to escape the High Table, trying to live a quiet life in this remote outpost. But the gold coin in Leo's hand was a marker—a sacred blood oath he had sworn to John Wick years ago when John had spared his life.
The front doors rattled violently. A cold, commanding voice echoed from the other side.
"Open the door, Marcus. We know the boy is inside. Hand him over, and we will leave you in peace. You have no stake in this."
Marcus walked slowly toward the center of the room, holding his shotgun at his side. He knew these men. They were clean-up crews, mercenaries hired by a rogue faction of the High Table who wanted to wipe out any trace of John Wick's legacy.
"The boy is under my protection," Marcus shouted back, his voice echoing off the timber walls. "He holds a marker. You know the rules. If you cross that threshold, you violate the code."
A tense silence stretched over the desert. Then, the glass windows shattered.
