Previously: A seasoned veteran, blind and alone in a dark tavern, is confronted by a masked robber. What starts as a simple threat quickly escalates into a battle of wits and wills, revealing a hidden past.

Thirty Years Waiting

Enraged by the veteran’s calm assessment and the sudden shift in power, Vance lunged forward, his intention clear: to pistol-whip Noah into submission. But his sudden surge of aggression was met with an explosive blur of motion. Noah, with astonishing speed, swept his hickory cane into Vance’s lead ankle. The sharp crack of bone echoed through the tavern as Vance’s leg buckled beneath him. In the same fluid motion, Noah’s iron grip clamped onto Vance’s wrist, wrenching the joint inward with a sickening, snapping crunch. The Glock-19 was stripped cleanly from Vance’s grasp in less than half a second, a display of authentic biomechanical leverage honed by years of rigorous training. The heavy pistol was instantly pressed under Vance’s chin, the cold steel a stark contrast to his ragged breath.

"What the hell are you?!"
Vance gasped, his voice a choked, agonizing whisper, his mouth trembling uncontrollably. Noah remained silent, his breathing slow and measured, his chest perfectly still, the captured Glock held rock-steady. He rose to his full height, his presence suddenly towering, amplified by the dim, chiaroscuro lighting that rimmed his face in golden light. He racked the heavy steel slide of the Glock against Vance’s tactical vest with a thunderous metallic clack that reverberated through the cavernous space.
"Thirty years in Special Forces... and I don't need eyes to put you in the ground."
Noah’s voice was a low, lethal gravel, imbued with an authority that brooked no argument. Vance, paralyzed by a terror that soaked into the black neoprene mask, could only hyperventilate. A single tear of sheer dread welled along his lower eyelid, a testament to the profound mistake he had made. The sirens, once distant, were now deafeningly close, their wail signaling the end of Vance's violent spree, and the unexpected, dramatic re-emergence of Noah's legendary past.
