Previously: A blinded combat vet's quiet night at an art gallery turns deadly when a heist crew invades. But they picked the wrong woman to underestimate.

The Reckoning

Sarah held Viktor pinned, the stolen pistol’s cold steel a stark contrast to his panicked skin. The storm outside continued its furious assault, but within the gallery, a new, more terrifying storm had broken. The air crackled with tension, thick with the scent of ozone, sea salt, and Viktor’s fear.

"Delta Force reconnaissance. And in this darkness, you're the one who is completely blind."

Her voice, usually calm and measured, was now laced with the venom of the combat zone. Viktor’s chest heaved, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Tears of pure terror welled in his eyes, his lower eyelids trembling. He was utterly helpless, pinned beneath a woman he had dismissed as an easy mark. He could feel the slight tremble of the gun against his forehead, the deadly certainty in her grip.

A massive bolt of violet lightning tore across the sky, illuminating Sarah’s face in a stark, chiaroscuro brilliance. Her unblinking scarred face was a mask of ruthless determination. With a decisive, mechanical snap, she cocked the hammer of the empty pistol. The sound, amplified in the sudden silence, was a death knell. Viktor’s chin violently quivered, his jaw slackening in total submission. He knew, with horrifying clarity, that this was the end.

"Now count your heartbeats before the rest of your squad steps into my dark."

Her voice was chilling, ice-cold finality. The thunder detonated, plunging the gallery back into absolute blackness. Viktor, trapped in the suffocating dark, could only listen. He heard the relentless roar of the sea, the drumming of the rain, and the frantic, desperate pounding of his own heart. He had stepped into Sarah’s darkness, and now he was lost within it, waiting for the inevitable.
